There are a number of simple ways to help prevent littering:

  • Contact businesses who sold what was littered to try and reduce packaging
  • Make sure your waste goes in the rubbish bin, not beside it
  • Take your litter home when visiting parks and gardens
  • Pick up or sweep up litter, do not wash it away into drains, creeks and rivers
  • Pack a nude food lunch with reusable plastic containers and water bottles
  • Do not sweep grass or leaves into gutters as they decay and make a rich nutrient source for algal blooms
  • Always dispose of unwanted chemicals responsibly; never pour them into gutters or drains
  • Use a reusable cloth bag when you are shopping
  • Always take a pick-up-bag when walking your dog
